1 September 2004 · Committee
7, The Quay, Castletown, Isle Of Man, IM9 1ld
This application sought permission to add a dormer window to the front elevation of Harbour House, a Registered Building at 7 The Quay, Castletown. The Planning Committee refused the application in September 2004. The committee found no historical evidence that the building ever had a dormer window on its front elevation. The proposed dormer, together with a timber pulley post and balcony included in the scheme, were judged to be incongruous additions that would undermine the building's authenticity and detract from its appearance and character. The Conservation Officer had also recommended refusal, and the committee's decision reflected concern for protecting the integrity of a Registered Building within the Castletown Conservation Area.
