This application seeks approval for the formation of a dormer window to the front elevation of Harbour House, Castletown Quay, together with the creation of a balcony. The dwelling is a Registered Building prominently located in the Castletown Conservation Area. There is no historical evidence to suggest that the building originally benefited from such a dormer and the proposed introduction of a timber pulley post is considered to be incongruous. The Conservation Officer recommends refusal.

Given that there is no historical evidence to suggest that the building originally benefited from a dormer window to the front elevation, it is considered that this addition, together with the timber pulley post and balcony represent an incongruous addition to this Registered Building and one which would detract from the appearance of the building within the Conservation Area.

Harbour House, 7 The Quay is a Registered Building and highly prominent in the Coastal town Conservation Area. The proposed is the addition of a dormer and balcony to the rockcap. The addition of the timber falling past is (I assume) to suggest that it draws on the architectural detailing of a working Quayside. - This appears to be an incongruous addition to the building and one which unless historic evidence can be provided to the contrary, should not be added.
