The Secretary to the Planning Committee Murray House Mount Havelock Douglas
Dear Sir.
Planning Application No: 04/01431/GB Applicant: Mr & Mrs Myers Address: Harbour House Castletown. Details: Installation of Dormer window to front elevation.
With reference to the above planning application, we wish to object most strongly to the proposal that would, if approved, erode the conservation area of Castletown.
We refer you to the Castletown Local Plan, Section 9, Para. 9.2. "The centrepiece of the area is Castle Rushen which is the focal point of the radial street pattern. These streets and the lanes related to the Harbour contain a significant proportion of original buildings and structures. The policy is therefore that the overall character of Castletown should not only be safeguarded but enhanced by positive actions".
We consider that the installation of a dormer window in the style of a mock loading and unloading door on the uppermost floor of Harbour House to be totally out of character. Any comparisons to the adjacent property should be discounted as this building retains all the character of a warehouse although previously converted to living accommodation. The proposal for Harbour House severely detracts from the current building and would look totally out of character with one dormer centrally located.
We would request the planning committee take our views into consideration and refuse this application.
Yours faithfully
John Cringle
