8 June 2005 · Delegated
Thie Eary, Dandy Hill, Port Erin, Isle Of Man, IM9 6hn
The application relates to Thie Eairy, a modest bungalow with a flat-roofed garage on Dandy Hill, Port Erin, sitting immediately north of a Victorian terrace and enjoying commanding views over Port Erin bay. The building had developed serious cracks and some ground slippage, making structural repair a key driver of the scheme. Works included rebuilding the seaward elevation in white-painted shiplap cladding with a slight extension into the garden, largely glazing the sea-facing gable, adding a first-floor balcony, constructing a chimney, and widening the access in front of the garage to create additional off-street parking while retaining part of the existing hedge. The officer considered that the works would modernise and generally improve the appearance of the dwelling. The Highways Division raised no concerns about the new parking areas, and no adverse traffic impacts were identified. The application was permitted by delegated decision in June 2005, subject to two conditions.
The proposal was approved because the works addressed genuine structural problems at the property while improving its appearance.
