Permission was granted for a triple garage and store room extension, with a terrace and balustrade above, on the south west elevation of the Old Primary School on Kionslieu Hill, Foxdale. The building is a prominent former school that has been converted into a dwelling. The officer's report noted that the converted building had no garage for parking vehicles, and the proposed flat-roof extension was intended to address this by providing three garages. The site is visible on approach from Mines Road to the west, being adjacent to the playing fields of the new school. The Planning Committee approved the application, noting that while the extension would be visible, the building had already lost some of its original character. Approval was granted subject to seven conditions.

Condition 1
The development hereby permitted shall commence before the expiration of four years from the date of this notice.
Condition 2
This approval related to drawing numbers AL - 01, AL- 02, AL - 03, AL - 04, AL - 05 and the information submitted on 9th February 2004.
Condition 3
Prior to the commencement of works, further details, which should include a large scale drawing, of the proposed balustrading should be submitted to and approved by the Planning Committee. The approved balustrading must be in place as shown on the submitted drawings before the garaging is available for use by vehicles.
Condition 4
The garaging must be used for the parking of domestic vehicles only in association with 'The Old School.'
Condition 5
Notwithstanding the provisions of the Town and Country Planning (Permitted Development) Order 1983 (or any other Order revoking or re-enacting that Order) no garden shed, green house or tanks for the storage of oil for domestic heating shall be erected on the patio area.
Condition 6
There must be no discharge of surface water to the main foul sewer.
Condition 7
No part of the proposed development may be constructed nor any trees planted within three metres of any public sewer either at the time of construction or at any time in the future.
