The proposal was for approval in principle to erect a dwelling on a countryside site not zoned for development under the 1982 Development Plan. The Planning Committee refused the application on 22 July 2003. Refusal reasons stated the site is in the countryside, unzoned for housing, and contrary to policies in Planning Circular 1/88 protecting rural areas from unwarranted development. The dwelling would harm the rural character and appearance.
The Planning Committee refused the application. The site lacks development zoning on the 1982 plan and conflicts with countryside housing policies. Approving it would harm rural character and undermine countryside protections.
Refusal Reasons
- ✕The site is in the countryside and it is not zoned for development on the 1982 Development Plan. The erection of a dwelling would be contrary to the land use zoning and also the policies set out in Planning Circular 1/88 "Residential Development - Houses in the Countryside", both of which are in place to protect the countryside from unwarranted development. The proposal would adversely affect the character and appearance of this rural area and weaken the Department's established countryside policies if approved.
- ✕This decision was made by the Planning Committee constituted in accordance with Paragraph 2 of Schedule 1 of the Isle of Man Planning Scheme (Development Plan) Order 1982.
