Saw Mills, Foxdale Road, St Johns, Isle Of Man, IM4 3as
The application sought permission to erect a temporary prefabricated storage building on a grassed area between the southernmost building of the Saw Mills and the A30 Foxdale Road. The structure was to be relocated from the nearby Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry depot across the road, and used during construction of a replacement workshop and stores building already approved under a separate permission (08/00698/B). Once that development was complete, the temporary building would be removed. The site is well screened by trees and a timber fence along its southern boundary, with substantial planting along the road frontage. The officer judged that the building's temporary nature, its setting against the backdrop of the existing site and ongoing construction works, and the strong screening meant it would cause no unacceptable visual harm.
The building was approved because it would be in place for less than one year, the site is well screened from the road, and the structure would be seen against the existing sawmill buildings and active construction works rather than as a standalone intrusion.
