12 November 2007 · Delegated
Flat 1, 6, Sherwood Terrace, Douglas, Isle Of Man, IM2 4en
This application sought permission to install replacement windows at 6 Sherwood Terrace, Douglas, a building used as apartments and one of eight similar properties forming a terrace on the north-west side of Broadway. The application was refused on 12 November 2007. The decision was made by the Director of Planning and Building Control under delegated authority, and the officer also recommended refusal. The sole reason for refusal was that the replacement windows would not replicate the method of opening or the delicate glazing bar pattern of the original windows. This was considered a failure to preserve or enhance the conservation area, causing visual harm to the street scene.
The application was refused because the proposed replacement windows would not replicate the method of opening or the delicate glazing bar pattern of the original windows. This failure to match the character of the existing windows was judged harmful to the conservation area and the appearance of the street scene.
