Clougher House, Ballamodha Straight, Ballamodha, Ballasalla, Isle Of Man, IM9 3az
The application sought permission to move an existing corrugated Nissen hut to a new position within the residential curtilage of Clougher House, which sits to the west of the Ballamodha Straight. The site also contains a small cottage and garage, and is accessed via a rough lane serving surrounding farmland. The site falls within undesignated 'white land' under the Isle of Man Planning Scheme. The officer assessed the building as clearly usable and noted the applicant intended to use it for storing gardening and other equipment. The key planning issue was whether the repositioned structure would affect the character or appearance of the area, and the officer concluded it would not. Permission was granted subject to three conditions, including a requirement to paint the hut dark green within one month of relocation.
The application was approved because the repositioned hut was judged to have no adverse impact on the character or appearance of the area. The building was already in use and the relocation was considered a modest, practical change. A condition requiring the hut to be painted dark green was attached to minimise any visual impact.
