25 January 2006 · Delegated
1, Barrack Lane, Ramsey, Isle Of Man, IM8 1be
This application sought permission to construct dormers on the front and rear elevations of 1 Barrack Lane, Ramsey, a narrow property within a Conservation Area. The application was refused on 25 January 2006 by the Director of Planning under delegated powers. The decision identified three main concerns. First, the design and form of the dormers were considered out of keeping with the character of the dwelling, making them an inappropriate form of extension that would harm its visual amenity. Second, the proposal would neither preserve nor enhance the character of the Conservation Area. Third, granting permission would set an undesirable precedent for similar extensions elsewhere along Barrack Lane.
The application was refused because the proposed dormers were considered out of keeping with the character of the narrow dwelling and would neither preserve nor enhance the Conservation Area. Approving the dormers would also have set an undesirable precedent for similar extensions along Barrack Lane.
