Grenaby Farm, Grenaby, Ballasalla, Isle Of Man, IM9 3bd
The application concerned outbuildings within the curtilage of a substantial house on the western side of Grenaby Road (B41) in Malew. The outbuildings already had permission for conversion to permanent residential use, but the applicant wished to use them instead as self-catering tourist accommodation, with the family's need for additional permanent space to be met through a separate extension to the main house. The site sits within 'white land' under the Isle of Man Planning Scheme, with an Area of High Landscape or Coastal Value immediately across the road. The plans matched those previously approved under PA 04/00987. The Department of Tourism and Leisure supported the application. The Planning Committee approved the proposal, subject to two conditions.
The outbuildings already had residential conversion consent, and the officer found no policy barrier to switching that use to tourist accommodation. The applicant's need for permanent family accommodation was being addressed separately through an extension to the main house, making the tourist use of the outbuildings appropriate.
