24 November 2005 · Committee
Unit 48, Spring Valley Industrial Estate, Douglas, Isle Of Man, IM2 2qs
This application sought permission to allow Unit 48 at Spring Valley Industrial Estate, Braddan, to be used for warehousing in addition to its already permitted light industrial use. Previous planning approvals (04/1170 and 05/642) had allowed alterations, extensions, and subdivision of the building into five units, but attached a condition restricting those units to light industrial use only. Because warehousing (storage or distribution) is a different use class from light industrial under planning rules, a separate permission was required to allow that additional use. The Planning Committee granted permission on 24 November 2005, subject to three conditions.
The Planning Committee permitted the change of use at Unit 48 Spring Valley Industrial Estate. A previous approval had restricted the building's five subdivided units to light industrial use only, and because warehousing is a separate use class under planning rules, a new permission was needed. The officer found no reason why warehousing would be unacceptable given the building's location within an industrial estate, and the application was approved with three conditions.
