20 December 2005 · Committee
St. Johns Steel Services, Old Brick Works, Mines Road, Foxdale, Isle Of Man, IM4 3ex
Permission was granted for an extension to the existing workshop at St John's Steel Services on Mines Road, Foxdale. The site sits in a prominent position in the heart of Foxdale village and is designated for industrial or retail use. The officer's report noted the site was considered very prominent but unattractive, and that the designation allowed development of either industrial or retail type to help improve it. One issue raised was that no landscaping was proposed as part of the application. The Planning Committee approved the application on 20 December 2005, with four conditions attached to the permission.
The Planning Committee approved the extension to the existing workshop at St John's Steel Services. The site is designated for industrial or retail use and the proposal was considered acceptable in that context. The officer noted that no landscaping was proposed, though this did not prevent approval. Four conditions were attached to the permission.
Condition 1
The development hereby permitted shall commence before the expiration of four years from the date of this notice.
Condition 2
This permission relates to the erection of an extension to the existing workshop and provision of access and parking all as shown in drawings 01, 02 and 03 all received on 30th September, 2005.
Condition 3
Prior to the commencement of works on site, the applicant must: 1) have approved by the Planning Authority a landscaping scheme which introduces planting alongside the road to provide a more attractive appearance of the site therefrom and 2) undertake such geological and structural surveys so as to ensure that the site is not contaminated and that if contamination is found, appropriate measures are undertaken as directed by the Environmental Protection Section of the DLGE to enable the approved works to be undertaken safely and in accordance with the approved plans.
Condition 4
There must be no discharge of surface water to the main foul sewer.
