SPMC&E VIEWS ON APPLICATIONS from WEEKLY LIST 238 List dated 21/07/05 Date of this response 23/07/05
See 02/1885 & 05/0398 In Conservation Area in centre of village. They have diverged in detail from original plans, (apparently – I have not seen them), most dramatically in installing casement instead of sash windows. It still looks OK though.
05/01292/B
Conversion of Barn to residential dwelling with kitchen and porch extension (Re submission), Millcroft Barn Glen Road Colby
ARBORY
A much-needed improvement, which highlights just one of the many defects in what was a most expensive and unfortunate design exercise. Why are big schemes here such expensive failures? I note the new sewage disposal works are not functioning properly – there is a most definite odour when travelling along Castletown Old Road. A properly designed and run STW should NOT SMELL.
05/01267/B
Provide a new access road and patient access to, Nobles Hospital Strang
BRADDAN
Shared driveway problems! That apart, the scheme does manage to contrive an additional dwelling in the countryside to which the Society will OBJECT. It can so easily lead to other things – see 05/1239 on last week’s list.
05/01301/B
Conversion and extension to garage to form ancillary accommodation, erection of a new garage with kennels, replacement stable and upgrading access to provide new vehicular access and driveway, Flambards Mount Rule West Baldwin
BRADDAN
Reserved matters to A-i-P 05/0148. In moving this access (which must certainly be rather difficult) downhill below “Cranford”, I think sufficient space needs to be left within the Breeze Hill track to permit vehicles to turn when visiting Cranford or the cottage immediately above it at what is the termination of Breeze Hill as a vehicular route.
05/01289/B
Creation of new access, with associated driveway, St Nicholas Breeze Hill
LAXEY
These are awfully large! The Island seems to be suffering from a rash of advertisements of one sort or another and one would expect MNH to be more sensitive in promoting them. The Society is SERIOUSLY CONCERNED and considers these two just too big. Unfortunately they are not the only ones hereabouts.
(I keep noticing a VERY DANGEROUS commercial sign at Blackboards Corner. This is a serious accident black-spot without adding other features to distract driver’s attention – why isn’t something done about it? The Chairman of our Planning Committee used to take me out with a crowbar removing unofficial signs which had not had Advert Reg. Consent!)
05/01297/R
Retrospective application for the erection of two signs (Conservation area), Adjacent To Manx Electric Railway Tracks Each Side Of Mines Road / New Road Junction
LAXEY
A holding of c.5,000 acres! Grouped with older farm buildings but will still be very prominent on the ridgeline above the Village. We think it needs something that will better blend-in to the countryside than bare Eternit fibre cement sheets on the roof, which are rather white.
The walls, of creasoted boarding, will be fine but the roof forms the all-important, visual ‘lid’ which ties the structure down into the landscape.
05/01306/B
Erection of a cattle shed, Baljean Farm Baldhoon Road
