Officer's Report
The application seeks approval for the erection of an agricultural building within a group of existing farm buildings in Lonan. The applicant has stated that their farm holding equates to almost five thousand acres.
Whilst not objecting to the need for the building and the building itself SPMCE have commented about the potential visual impact of the building on the ridgeline above Laxey. Whilst I would have to accept that building will probably be visible from some places that are distant from the site I have had difficulty in trying to observe any such place. Lonan Parish Commissioners have recommended
approval subject to screen planting around the building. Given that the building is within an operational farm holding I would question the viability of such a condition. The proposed building is a standard agricultural building, with standard finishes and there is clear agricultural need. I recommend that the planning application be approved.
