31 May 2005 · Delegated
Grianagh, Surby Road, Surby, Port Erin, Isle Of Man, IM9 6ta
Permission was granted for the erection of a detached garage at Grianagh, Surby, Port Erin. The property sits on the northern side of the B47 Surby Road, and the proposed garage was to be built at the lower end of the curtilage, on the boundary with the road, with its door facing west toward an existing access. The key planning consideration was that the garage's position on the road boundary meant it fell outside what would normally be permitted without formal consent. However, the officer's report noted that its size and mass were modest — 6m by 4.3m in plan and 3.8m tall — and that it would have complied with permitted development provisions had it not been adjacent to the road. The application was approved under delegated authority on 31 May 2005, subject to three conditions.
The application was approved by the Director of Planning under delegated powers. The garage was considered modest in size and mass, measuring 6m by 4.3m and 3.8m in height. Its position on the road boundary meant it could not automatically comply with permitted development provisions, but its scale and relationship to the existing access were found acceptable.
