Officer's Report
The site relates to Fields 312346 and 312348, Laurel Bank Farm, Laurel Bank.
It is proposed to excavate what is a sloping bank to form a series of terraces to allow better use for agriculture.
Half of the excess material will be retained on site to repair an existing track. Advice from DAFF has been sought. Caroline Perry has confirmed the following points:
That the area was once used for grazing but is now overgrown. Overgrown gorse does little to enhance the wildlife of the area. The works would enhance wildlife by having a grass field next to an old woodland area. Terracing makes it easier to stabilise the area and is standard practice elsewhere but not on the Island. There will be no visual impact.
On balance, the works are considered acceptable given DAFF’s views.
