Officer’s Report

The application seeks approval for works to stabilise slopes within Dhoon Glen, Maughold. The proposed works entail the use of gabion baskets and the re-grading of the slope following recent landslip.

Whilst there are no direct objections to the proposed works a number of people have commented on the use of gabion baskets and asked whether sloping front baskets are available to be used instead. It is my understanding that, for reasons of stacking and use, gabion baskets are not available with sloping fronts. As the works are necessary in order to prevent further land slippage I recommend that the application be approved.

C 1. The development hereby permitted shall commence before the expiration of four years from the date of this notice.

C 2. This approval relates to the location plan, site plan and section plan date stamped the 30th December 2004.

C 3. Prior to the commencement of works full detailed drawings must be submitted to and agreed with the Department of Transport Drainage Division.

N 4. The applicant is advised that, in accordance with the 1934 Land Drainage Act, written permission must be obtained from the Land Drainage Engineer of the Department of Transport Drainage Division before any works are carried out on the watercourse.
