Applicant Supporting Statement
3) Whilst the location of the proposed clinic is within a residential area of Peel, it is on the site of a former shop. Also, there is an engineering business that operates from the garages at the Northern end of Victoria Terrace.
4) We have been given permission by the Department of Transport to alter the kerbs at the front of the house to allow easier access to two of the off road parking spaces.
5) There is currently no Chartered Physiotherapist practicing in Peel, either in the National Health Service or privately. This proposal would be the only Chartered Physiotherapy clinic operating in Peel, and would cover the whole of the West of the Island. This is something that has been requested by many of my clients who I have treated in Douglas.
6) Peel’s continuing expansion includes the development of a new Doctor’s surgery to cater for the needs of the growing population. As Peel grows, so will its medical needs, and this proposed clinic will provide a valuable service for the residents of Peel, and also the wider Western area.
7) I am a Peel resident and will be working from home. This is an activity that is being encouraged by governments across the globe as it reduces the need for commuting and also eases childcare issues. Whilst we do not at present have any children, it would certainly be more convenient to work from home should we have children in the future.
8) I have a large pre-existing client base and an established reputation. The service that will be offered from the proposed clinic will be highly professional. I have been qualified for twelve years and have been involved in all levels of physiotherapy, including local Manx events, the Isle of Man squad at Commonwealth Games, the Great Britain Cycling Squad, and will be practicing at the Olympic Games in Athens 2004.
9) I have recently put in an application for a change of use from a bookshop to a Physiotherapy and associated practices clinic in Woodbourne Road, Douglas. This application was granted, however, the owners of the bookshop withdrew the availability of the premises. This has resulted in my looking elsewhere for premises and, after researching the various options I feel that the ability to work from home is by far the most preferred option.
Faithfully,
Isla Scott MCSP, SRP, OCPPP, MSMA
