Dear Sirs
Re ROBINSON BALLAPADDAG
The present application is to extend the existing buildings at Ballapaddag to make the building more efficient.
Since the last extension, which was to provide vegetable preparation areas, the business has expanded and the demand for deliveries of catering goods as well as fruit, vegetables and prepared vegetables has increased and, indeed, is an essential part of the viability of the business.
The Tele-Sales, that is the area where orders are phoned in, needs to be enlarged as there are now 9 people working in the area with specialists in delicatessen, Chinese, Indian and Turkish foods, also essential to a smooth operation where orders are prepared into the storage areas.
The new extensions are therefore as follows:
- A new fruit and vegetable packing area at the front of the building which will allow the present packing area adjacent to the fridges to be incorporated into the chilled storage area
- Extension to the office area within the present building
- A new tall storage area where catering goods can be kept for picking and a new larger picking area located next to 12 loading bays where the 12 vans deliver twice daily to the West Coast, Ramsey, Peel, Castletown, Port Erin, Laxey and with 6 operating within the Douglas area.

The overall effect is to centralise the loading area so goods can be effectively and properly marshalled ready for distribution throughout the Island.
All this is within the present land designated for use by Robinson's . The material will be the same as the present building and the new height will not exceed the existing ridge although more efficient use of space is achieved by using lower pitches on the roof. The additional space created by the great volume avoids having larger floor areas for space and makes for more efficiency.
The new building will be used to distribute fruit, vegetables and catering goods to the increasing diversity the industry now requires in the expanding Island economy. There is a change of use but only as a diversification of the business. The core business is still the distribution of fruit and vegetable to the Island Supermarket, Shops, Hotels and Restaurants.
Yours faithfully
