9 October 2003 · Committee
Lambourne Cottage, Main Road, Kirk Michael, Isle Of Man, IM6 1ab
The proposal was for the conversion of a showroom and store — the premises known as Country Cookers and Stoves on Main Road, Kirk Michael — into a residential dwelling, with rear car parking provided. The key planning concerns identified by the officer were whether the proposed dwelling would have adequate external space, outlook, and privacy, and whether the conversion would cause harm to the adjoining property, Lambourne Cottage. The officer concluded from the submitted plans that the scheme was clearly very tight in terms of space, outlook, and privacy, and recommended refusal on that basis. The Planning Committee determined the application and refused it, consistent with the officer's recommendation.
The application was refused because the proposed dwelling was considered inadequate in terms of external space, outlook, and privacy. The officer judged the scheme clearly too constrained on these grounds, and the Planning Committee agreed.
