Officer's Report
The Site
The site represents the curtilage of an existing cottage which is situated on the western side of the A5 Douglas Road between Silverburn estate and the Whitestone roundabout. The property is a semi-detached traditional cottage which sits alongside a side lane which leads to a group of garaging at the rear.
Planning Status
The site lies within an area designated on the 1982p as Existing Residential.
Planning History
Planning permission was sought and granted for the following:
- PA 89/1650 - erection of rear porch
- PA 89/1961 - former extension
- PA 92/0413 - alterations and extension
- PA 05/0325 - erection of single storey pitched roof extension and rear dormer
The Proposal
Now proposed is the replacement of the front door with a solid panelled door with two square lights in the top, coloured black and the replacement of the rear door with a new one coloured white. The
existing front door is a white plastic door with upper light. The existing rear door has a large glass pane beneath and above the central transom and again is framed in plastic.
REPRESENTATIONS
Malew Parish Commissioners indicate that they do not object to the application.
ASSESSMENT
The existing front door is not original and detracts from the appearance of the otherwise relatively traditional property. The new door is much more appropriate. The rear door, which is generally only seen by persons within the property and by those visiting the garaging at the rear, is presently not attractive and the proposed replacement will not detract any further from the appearance of the property.
PARTY STATUS
The Department of Transport and the local authority are, by virtue of the Town and Country Planning (Development Procedure) Order 2005, paragraph 6 (5) (c) and (d), considered "interested persons" and as such should be afforded party status.
