Introduction and addendum to the Tree Planting Scheme Description: Ballachurry Beg is a detached, extended property Built in 1806 with a detached 2 story coach house comprising of triple garages / mixed use storage with converted over accommodation sitting in approximately 4 acres. It consists of mixed existing native and non-native trees, paddocks, orchard and pond.
Since the purchase of Ballachurry Beg a Tree management programme has been in place under the guidance of DEFA Forestry with permission for the removal of dead, diseased trees and those that have been damaged through age or adverse weather (including and excluding the designated area). This has required the use and storage of associated machinery and equipment for processing the wood, dry wood storage also and including the maintenance and good practice of land management, drainage and cleaning of ditches.
As an addendum to the Tree Planting Scheme we have also had to make arrangements for the storage of Agricultural equipment for Land Management along with suitable housing of Livestock, associated storage of tools and equipment.
The land management and animal management included a self-sufficient scheme of planting, production and harvesting of vegetables, fruit and eggs, including housing of hens, ducks and geese and associated equipment required which became an absolute necessity during Covid lockdown.
With Covid lockdown we had requirement for further secure animal housing and storage of essential equipment, this was especially prevalent due to non-essential movement of Livestock and any potential veterinary needs and delivery of animal feed. During Covid Lockdown Animal and Land Management was extremely difficult with only essential key workers permitted to travel. This therefore required the storage of various types of large machinery required for private land management and for care of Livestock kept on-site. During the period from 2019 to date, as with any good practice of rotational land management we have used the land for grazing of horses, sheep and various free-range Poultry and also for Hay making for animal fodder.
Variable Livestock on site between 2019 to date:
We also had to contend with and create suitable animal housing units for poultry during the outbreak of Avian / Bird Flu, with requirement for storage for all equipment and feed associated with keeping of Poultry and Livestock.
Agricultural Equipment:
Various Vintage Tractors and equipment have been and are kept on site suitable for the land, with appreciation and sympathetically thought of for the limitations of use of equipment appropriate to the acreage, this includes all associated mechanical attachments needed to effectively and efficiently run a private, self-sufficient small holding including:
Digger Case 580F and associated attachment’s including various buckets and forks (lifting and movement of fallen trees, laying of wood chip for maintenance of access lane to pond and rear paddocks, all heavy lifting and moving) 1x Massey Fergerson 165 1x International 374
Multiple hand tools including: Various Chainsaws (Petrol and Battery) Ride on lawn mower Petrol and electric push lawn mowers Hedge cutter Strimmer Gardening Tools, hoe’s, shovels, trowels, rakes Various vegetable harvesting picking baskets, tools and storage handling system
Animal Housing: Keeping of ponies Multiple Hen houses Various Duck and Geese housing units and Run Various Large multi-purpose animal crates for safe movement and segregation Various Cat Boxes Secure storage of equine, feed, bedding, tack, rugs etc. Storage of bird grain – vermin proof Wheelbarrows and hand tools for cleaning of livestock housing and manure handling
