This application sought permission to erect a sludge import, thickening and storage facility at the Meary Veg Sewage Treatment Works in Santon, submitted by the Isle of Man Water and Sewerage Authority. The site sits within the curtilage of the existing sewage treatment facility, to the south east of the steam railway line. The buildings on site are readily visible from a public footpath running alongside the site. The Department of Infrastructure approved the application on 15 October 2012, with three conditions attached to the permission.

Condition 1
The development hereby permitted shall commence before the expiration of four years from the date of this notice.
Condition 2
This permission relates to the construction of new sewage treatment facilities and associated access and hardstanding, all as shown in drawings 60159111/600/P2, 60159111/601/P2, 60159111/602/P1, 60159111/603/P1, 60159111/604/P2, 60159111/606/P1, 60159111/607/P1, 60159111/608/P1, 60159111/609/P1, 60159111/610/P1, 60159111/611/P1, 60159111/612/P1, 60159111/613/P1 and the Environmental Appraisal Report, all received on 8th August, 2012.
Condition 3
The portions of sod hedge to be removed within the site must be removed prior to the end of October to reduce the risk of harm to any lizards on the site. Such works must be overseen by a qualified ecologist and continued liaison with Department of Environment Food & Agriculture Wildlife Division is encouraged. The material resulting from the removal of any hedgerows within the site must be retained for use in the construction of new Manx sod hedging between the new buildings and the western perimeter of the site. Details of this where this is not shown on the approved drawings must be approved by the Planning Authority prior to the removal of any hedging.
