Condition No 04:
Prior to the commencement of the development hereby approved, details of the two swallow nesting platforms to be erected in the re-located barn to mitigate against the loss of their nest sites shall be submitted to and approved in writing by the Department. The details shall also show how permanent access into the barn will be enabled for them. The swallow nesting platforms shall be permanently retained in accordance with the approved details.
Reason: To provide adequate safeguards for the ecological species existing on the site.
This submission responds to the requirement of the condition:
• Position of relocated barn in relation to approved tourist units. Please refer to:
o Drawing “23/3026/03 - Rev B – Proposed Site Plan” Details regarding the swallow nesting cups
Two new swallow nesting cups are to be terracotta/ woodcrete, with a timber backing panel which can be easily fixed to the rafters of the re-located barn with stainless steel screws. These are to be a minimum of 3m above the ground level, at least 1m away from another nesting cup, and installed with adequate space (min. 50mm above x 150mm wide) to allow access and functional use. Individual nesting cups are 100mm in diameter and 100mm deep internally. Exact specifics to be confirmed on site following re-location of existing barn. The relocated barn is not to be fully enclosed to ensure birds can access the swallow cups at all times. Please find the attached example images below.
