Please accept this as a written statement relating to the appeal submitted by Manx Telecom against the Planning Committee’s decision on 7 July 2025. This decision was to refuse application 25/90376/B relating to the installation of telegraph poles and cables in Eary Veg, Tromode Park and a related case in Slieau Dhoo, Tromode Park 25/90377/B. As outlined in my previous objection dated 1 May 2025 and supported by many other objections, this proposal will without doubt have a severely negative impact on the street scene and will result in the narrowing of the pavements in Eary Veg. For these reasons the Planning Committee’s decision should be affirmed.

Having spoken to many people on this matter over the past few months, I’ve not met anyone who agrees with the view that these poles and cables won’t have a massively negative visual impact. It appears the reason for the appeal is that the Manx Telecom representative doesn’t agree that these poles and cables will be visually intrusive. This is most definitely a tiny minority view at odds with the view of most reasonable people, and importantly nine appointed members of the Planning Committee.

These applications are having a strong negative impact on an increasingly large number of residents on the island. These proposals create high levels of stress and a large amount of time and energy for those affected. It's clear that the focus should be around how to resolve this issue which might be achievable through discussions between Manx Telecom, the Department of Enterprise and the Department of Infrastructure. It appears this has been the case for several previous applications whereby the appeal has been withdrawn, and, in some cases, underground cabling has been installed.
