Dear sirs, We write in support of the appeal against the approval previously granted for the creation of a parking space in the cul-de-sac of Laurys Avenue. The Officers Report states that parking is available on both sides of the road. This is not the case as the cul-de-sac provides access to both Cooil ny Feeney and Fieldhouse by way of dropped curbs, therefore prohibiting parking on the north side of the road completely. In order to create this parking area, the currently unrestricted parking in the cul-de-sac for two vehicles will be lost completely. This will result in visitors and residents having to find parking outside other neighbours properties further down Laurys Avenue, and no doubt this will cause inconveniece to neighbours . The Officers Report also states that ‘no material harm would affect the host property’. This is not disputed as the small parcel of land is not even within the curtilage of Oakfield. However, to state that there would be no material harm to the use and enjoyment of neighbouring properties amenities is something we do not agree with. We rely on being able to park on the public highway as our driveway, within the curtilage of our property, is too narrow to accommodate a modern vehicle. Our driveway width is only 2.1 m. Further, we rely on daily visits from a number of healthcare professionals due to both of our longterm health issues. These people are currently able to attend our property in a timely and efficient manner as parking is available in the cul-de-sac adjacent to our bungalow. It would appear that the applicant has already created an off-road parking space within the curtilage of his property at the front with access to May Hill.
Currently number 4 Laurys Avenue is vacant and for sale. Should this property be sold to a family, the requirement for additional parking will increase further. We can see no justification for the approval of this one parking space to the detriment of a number of other users on the public highway, and within the cul-de-sac.
It is our intention to attend the hearing subject to the date as my wife is currently awaiting surgery. Yours faithfully
