Planning permission was sought to erect a single-storey flat-roofed extension to the front of the clubhouse at Douglas High School Old Boys AFC, Blackberry Lane, Onchan. The application was refused on 13 May 2022. The decision was made on delegated authority by the Head of Development Management. The refusal centred on the flat-roofed design and the significant size of the extension relative to the existing clubhouse, which together were considered to undermine the character and appearance of the building and its surroundings. The proposal was found to fail the relevant Isle of Man Strategic Plan policy requirements relating to siting, layout, scale, form, and design, and was judged to adversely affect the character of the surrounding landscape.

The application was refused by the Head of Development Management. The flat-roofed design and the significant size of the proposed extension to the front of the clubhouse were considered incompatible with the existing building and harmful to the character of the surrounding landscape.
