Church Conversion Proposal Statement

Proposed Conversion Of Former Methodist Church, Main Road, Onchan Into Offices
Onchan Methodist Church has not been used for Christian worship for many years and in recent years was used as a dance studio, but the condition of the building and its layout and space is not satisfactory for this use either. Whilst the building is structurally sound and has good walls and a roof, the present wc and kitchen spaces are exceptionally poor.
The Church was built as a single room structure and in later years, the larger side extension to the north was built and probably later still the single storey lean to toilets were built.
The proposal is to completely remove the single storey toilet facilities onto the lane together with the later extension, which presently abuts the boundary of the adjoining property No. 73, Main Road, Onchan. The proposal is then to construct a carefully designed single storey facilities extension, well away from the boundary of No. 73 and set back from the present building line onto Nursery Avenue. The proposal will have far less impact on neighbouring properties than the present extensions and four generous car parks will be provided.
Internally, facilities will include the creation of office space to the first floor reached by a new staircase and a modern service extension with proper disabled facilities.
The proposed extension will match in all respects to the existing building.
The total created office space is 135.5 sq. metres.
