16 January 2009 · Delegated
20, Lime Street, Port St. Mary, Isle Of Man, IM9 5ef
The application concerned a traditional terraced cottage on the southern side of Lime Street, backing onto the harbour, within an area designated as Existing Predominantly Residential. The proposal involved stripping the existing dashed render from the front elevation and replacing it with smooth painted render, alongside replacing the split stone front boundary wall. The officer assessed the visual impact of both elements. Replacing the dashed render with smooth painted render was considered a significant improvement to the property's appearance. The replacement boundary wall was also judged to improve the character of the property and the wider street, noting that part of the wall, being below 1 metre in height, would not have required planning permission in any case. No adverse impacts were identified, and the application was permitted by delegated decision.
The proposal was approved because replacing the dashed render with smooth painted render was assessed as a significant visual improvement to the property, and the new boundary wall was considered to enhance the character of both the property and the surrounding area. No planning harms were identified.
