This application sought permission to change the use of a concreted parking area at the Airship Hanger Base, Jurby Industrial Estate, from a parking facility serving a kart track to an overnight camping site for club members. The site has approximately 136 parking spaces and already contains two steel containers used as toilets and a shower block, along with electricity hook-ups. The site sits within the curtilage of the kart track and paddock, to the south-east of Jurby Industrial Estate and north of Jurby Airfield. A revised site location plan was submitted during the application process for fire safety reasons. The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture approved the application on 27 September 2022, subject to four conditions. Business Policy 14: Tourism development may be permitted in rural areas provided that it complies with the policies in the Plan. Farmhouse accommodation or quality self catering units in barn conversions and making use of rural activities will be encouraged but must comply with General Policy 3 and Business Policies 11 and 12. Other forms of quality accommodation in rural areas will be considered, including the provision of hostels and similar accommodation suitable for walkers but must comply with General Policy 3 and Business Policies 11 and 12.
Condition 1
The development hereby approved shall be begun before the expiration of four years from the date of this decision notice.
Condition 2
Notwithstanding the information provided within this application, no continuous stay may exceed 2 days, namely Friday and Saturday only and be no more than 34 weekends in each annum.
Condition 3
The proposed camping can only be used by IOMKRA Tracks Limited and associated race clubs and no other business/club or individual.
Condition 4
Overnight camping must be laid out in accordance with the revised site location plan dated 10 August 2022 at all times.
