The application site represents the curtilage of the Market Hall, Market Hill, Douglas. The property is a single storey market building and is Registered Building number 120.
Planning Status
The site is located within an area identified as being Predominantly Shopping Use by the Douglas Local Plan 1998. The site is also identified as being within the North Quay Conservation Area.

The Proposal
The application seeks approval for the erection of two wall mounted display cabinets to the north and south elevations to display information regarding the operation of the market hall. The display cabinets are to be , lockable hinged portrait style cabinets with polycarbonate glazing.
Representations
Douglas Corporation have no objection to the planning application.
The Department of Transport Highways Division have no objection to the planning application. We have received no privately written representations regarding this planning application.
Assessment
As this property is a Registered Building and within a Conservation Area extra consideration must be given. The proposed notice cabinets are relatively modest in size and design. The colouring and styles used on the cabinets is similar to other street furniture used by Douglas Corporation elsewhere in the town. It is judged the proposed cabinets will not adversely affect the character of the registered building or the Conservation Area.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the application be permitted.
