3 June 2008 · Committee
80, Parliament Street, Ramsey, Isle Of Man, IM8 1aq
The proposal involved changing the use of a commercial unit on the southern side of Parliament Street, Ramsey from retail to café. The site sits within an area designated as mixed use (town centre) under the Ramsey Local Plan Order 1998, making food and drink uses acceptable in principle at this location. Two local businesses — the co-owner of The Ramsey Trawlerman and the proprietor of The Court Café — objected on the grounds that there were already enough food and drink outlets in Ramsey. The Police Architectural Liaison Officer asked for operating hours to be controlled to avoid late-night issues, and the officer considered it appropriate to follow that advice. The application was determined by planning committee, in line with the officer's recommendation to approve.
The change of use was approved because a café is an acceptable use within the town centre mixed-use designation. An operating hours condition was considered appropriate to limit late-night activity.
