Hardstanding Area Adjacent To, Cronkdhoo Farm, Main Road, Greeba, Isle Of Man, IM4 2dx
This application sought permission to change the use of land at Cronkdhoo Farm, Greeba, from agricultural use to a campsite for motor homes. The Planning Committee refused the application on 19 May 2008. The site sits to the north east of the A1 Peel Road, approximately 90 metres from the roadside, and has some tree planting along its south western and south eastern boundaries. Despite this partial screening, the committee concluded that the proposed use would be incongruous and visually damaging to the surrounding area, which is recognised as being of High Landscape Value. The officer's report also identified highway safety and the broader principle of the proposed use as key issues. The formal refusal reason cited conflict with the Isle of Man Strategic Plan 2007.
The Planning Committee refused the application because converting agricultural land to a motor home campsite was considered an inappropriate use that would be visually damaging to an area recognised as being of High Landscape Value. The proposal was found to conflict with the Isle of Man Strategic Plan 2007.
