3 June 2008 · Committee
Timms Bistro, 5, East Street, Ramsey, Isle Of Man, IM8 1dn
Permission was granted for the demolition of an existing four-storey building at 5 East Street, Ramsey, and its replacement with a new four-storey building. The ground floor would contain a bar and restaurant, with six apartments on the floors above. The site sits within a Conservation Area, making the acceptability of demolition a central planning issue. The officer's report noted that the existing building was in critically flawed condition and did not contribute unique or irreplaceable visual amenity to the area. The visual impact of the proposed replacement building and the suitability of the apartments were also assessed. The Planning Committee approved the application.
The Planning Committee approved the application on 3 June 2008. Key considerations included whether demolition within the Conservation Area was acceptable, the visual impact of the replacement building, and the suitability of the proposed apartments. The officer noted that the existing building was in critically flawed condition and did not add unique or irreplaceable visual amenity, supporting the case for redevelopment. A condition relating to closing hours was later amended from 01:00 to midnight.
