16 February 2007 · Delegated
Ballavale Barns, Ballavale Road, Santon, Isle Of Man, IM4 1eh
This application sought permission for the necessary demolition of further limited areas of an existing stone structure at The Barns, Ballavale, Santon — an amendment to a previously approved scheme (06/00205/B). The officer noted this was at least the fifth amendment to the scheme and that, cumulatively, very little of the original structure would remain. The need for further demolition arose because contractors working on site found the building to be structurally less stable than had been assumed. Despite the cumulative extent of demolition, the areas proposed in this amendment were smaller in total than those already permitted. The application was permitted by delegated decision on 16 February 2007. The site consists of two L-shaped stone outbuildings forming a courtyard, located off a minor lane from Ballavale Road and visible from the railway line to the south.
The application was permitted on a delegated basis. The officer noted that the areas proposed for demolition were smaller in total than those already approved under earlier amendments, and that contractors on site had found the structure to be less stable than previously thought, making further limited demolition necessary.
