Permission was sought to erect an agricultural machinery shed to replace an existing structure at Squeen Farm, Ballacrye Road, Ballaugh, a site located on the eastern side of the B9 road northeast of Ballaugh Village. The application was refused in December 2007. Officers and the decision-maker found that the proposed building had the appearance and layout of a retail unit rather than an agricultural shed, making it out of character with its countryside designation. The site is not designated for commercial use, and the introduction of a building with this design was considered to amount to bringing commercial use into the countryside, contrary to the Isle of Man Strategic Plan and the Isle of Man Development Plan Order 1982.

The site is not designated for commercial use and is within the countryside. The introduction of this proposal would be inappropriate and would amount to introduction of a commercial use into the countryside contrary to the land designation in the Isle of Man Development Plan Order 1982.
Demolition of existing outbuilding and erection of replacement outbuilding
with the following condition added:- The building must only be used for agricultural purposes.
