Re- personal statement- The Farmhouse Ballaoates Farm Ballavagher Road St Johns IM4 3JE When we bought the property, set within 6.2 acres of farmland, we were informed that the previous owner had resided in the farmhouse until his death in 2019. The home is still connected to mains electricity and water and it was always our intention to renovate the house and extend it to provide family living accommodation. However, a structural survey revealed the gable wall had moved away from the rest of the house due to a lightning strike which rendered the building unstable. The engineer also informed us that the home did not have any foundations or damp course which would mean it didn’t comply with building regulations. We aim to return Ballaoates into a working farm and need to be on site in order to do this effectively. We would like to reconstruct a modern home that was sympathetic to the old buildings and in keeping with the islands biosphere status by using a number of eco friendly materials.
