6 March 2006 · Delegated
The Hermitage, Main Road, Santon, Isle Of Man, IM4 1en
Permission was granted for the erection of a steel-framed building at The Hermitage, Santon, to be used for storing vintage machinery. The site sits within an area designated for its high landscape value and scenic or coastal significance. However, the officer's report noted that the existing buildings on the site are not clearly visible from Pound Road or Castletown Road to the north, and that the position of the site — tucked away at the end of a lane and screened by buildings and vegetation — limits its visual impact. The application was decided under delegated authority and approved with three conditions.
The application was approved by the Director of Planning and Building Control under delegated authority. The site, while located within an area of High Landscape Value and Scenic or Coastal Significance, benefits from being tucked away at the end of a lane and screened by existing buildings and vegetation, meaning the proposed building would have limited visual impact on the wider landscape.
High Landscape Value and Scenic or Coastal Significance
The site falls within an area of High Landscape Value and Scenic or Coastal Significance on the 1982 Plan
