This retrospective application sought approval for external alterations and the erection of a wooden staircase to the rear of a detached property at 30 Douglas Street, Peel, which sits within the Peel Conservation Area. The Planning Committee approved the application on 9 August 2005. Officers noted that while the wooden staircase does not match the design of the building, its position enclosed within the rear yard means it does not have a detrimental effect on the character or appearance of the Conservation Area. One condition attached to the approval makes clear that no permission is granted for the use of the top floor of the property as a self-contained flat.
