05/00374/B Installation of metal security barriers and gates at various levels for night Douglas security, Car Park/Toilets, Chester Street, Laxey. This is hardly a matter for the Society's concern but one does just wonder how this is going to work vis-à-vis use of the car park by people attending the Gaiety Theatre or evening functions at the Museum? Are we going to find our cars locked-in?
05/00381/B Installation of mock vertical sash casement uPVC windows to front elevation and uPVC casement top hung windows to rear elevation to replace existing, Mount Pleasant Cottage, Minorca Hill, LA. Not in the C.A. and we have no observations.
05/00395/A Approval in Principle to demolish existing stone shell of farm house and Malew replace with 3 bedroom dormer bungalow for permanent residential/holiday rental use and creation of a new plot for 5 bedroom detached dwelling, Crossack Farm, Crossag Road, Ballasalla, The description above says, "demolish existing stone shell of farmhouse" whereas the Application Form and drawings, as far as I can make out, refer to "stone shell of barn". There is a considerable planning history on this site and I will need to research this and possibly do a site visit before being able to properly comment. I therefore wish to defer any further views until next week.
05/00399/B Erection of detached garage and machinery store with workshop, Malew adjacent to approved replacement dwelling (03/00244/B), land at, Ballaquaggan Farm, Douglas Road, Ballasalla, Laxey. In my letter dated 6th. March 1996 in connection with 95/1623 I expressed reservations about allowing a new dwelling here. Now it requires outbuildings – even more new building in the countryside! Marge's ghost will already be stirring and may well come down to haunt us! The Society must OBJECT.
05/00401/GB Reduce height of sections of curtilage wall and form new timber gate to Malew east elevation (in association with 05/00401/CON), Langness Cottages, Langness Lighthouse, Langness Road, Laxey. I can well understand the reasoning behind this proposal, which has little real impact on the Historic Building as such. I only hope they don't regret it when high waves are crashing over the rocks! No objections.
05/00382/B Erection of garage, Primrose Lodge, Slieau Lewaigue, Lewaigue, Laxey, Maughold The Planning Authority has been duped! The permission to convert the outbuildings should not have been allowed unless the buildings really were redundant. This present proposal suggests that they served (or could have served) as garaging to this dwelling. This sort of thing is all too easily overlooked when enthusing about saving traditional buildings by conversion and I am just as guilty sometimes! Is this reasoning sufficient to REFUSE this application? If so the Society will support it.
The Society has also been long concerned about unauthorised vehicle storage (& sales?) in OS Parcel 620576 adjoining and apparently belonging to this property. Is any enforcement action pending or has it gained established use by passage of time? It is a most discordant use on an exposed site in AHLV.
