Field 421038, Adjacent To Highmoor Main Road Colby Castletown
This application sought permission to erect a detached garage and garden store on a field adjacent to a semi-detached house on Main Road in Colby, along with a change of use of the field to domestic garden and alterations to the existing highway entrance. The officer recommended refusal and the committee refused the application. The proposed garage was considered disproportionately large. The field was identified as open space on the plan and represented one of only a few gaps remaining in the ribbon development along the road. The proposed change of use to domestic garden was also considered inappropriate, as it would alter the open rural character of the area. The semi-detached house currently has only one parking space fronting the main road with no on-site turning space.
The application was refused by committee. The proposed garage was considered very large at 12 metres by 7.05 metres and 5 metres in height. The field was identified as open space and one of only a few gaps in the ribbon development along Main Road, and converting it to domestic garden was considered inappropriate as it would alter the open rural character of the area.
