Statement of Wendy Astley to support planning application
I have purchased fields 321658 and 3244068 which amounts to around 9.5 acres. The land is already suitably fenced for the security and protection of equines. The land has a water supply already in place. I currently have two horses, one retired and one will be retiring in two-three years time so I will be looking to purchase two more horses soon. I also have two donkeys. There is plenty of acreage to support four horses however for their welfare shelter and stabling is needed as well as the ability to store feed and tack. I have been renting land with stables however I have to vacate where I currently am. I have looked in to wooden stables however, I know of two instances where these have been blown over in the high winds that we get on the Isle of Man (one with the horse inside). My land is high and on a hill so will be very windy so I am proposing on building a steel barn as attached which will ensure the safety and welfare of my horses. It would mean that everything can be stored inside and secure and my horses have shelter and respite during the winter months in particular. Also, if veterinary care is needed there is shelter to do this. I have discussed this with pre-planning and explained the reasoning for the request. I have also spoken to the previous owners of the land and the owners of the land adjacent to mine and there have been no objections. The attached photographs show the proposed positioning of the barn. The lane up to my fields will be resurfaced in order to allow vehicle assess during the winter.
