Officer's Report
The application seeks to erect a two-storey extension onto an existing detached dwelling in Jurby.
A previous application, PA02/0250/B, for an extension was refused all the way through to appeal. This previous proposal that sought to extend the dwelling through the introduction of rear extension to form a t-shaped dwelling was basically refused on the grounds of its overly large size and resultant design. However, through the appeal process it was established that the principle of extending the dwelling was generally acceptable, subject to appropriate design.
The extension now proposed, which results in a double gabled building, was discussed with the applicant following the appeal and is considered to be an appropriate compromise that provides the level of accommodation required whilst being suitably in keeping with the existing dwelling. The form
of the proposed development results in a dwelling similar to other extended dwelling within the surrounding area. I recommend that the application be approved.
