25 March 2004 · Delegated
Ardwhallin Adventure Centre, Lane From West Baldwin Road To Ardwhallin Adventure Centre, West Baldwin, Isle Of Man, IM4 5eu
The application sought permission to create a low ropes course at Ardwhallin Adventure Centre, an established outdoor pursuits facility south of Injebreck reservoir in Braddan. The site already contains a stone building, a stone shed, and a large field with existing activity equipment including rope swings, logs, and obstacles, all operated in an organised, supervised manner. The centre has a long planning history dating back to the 1970s, with the wider site formally defined in a 2001 application. The officer assessed that the proposed low ropes course would sit comfortably alongside the existing equipment and layout, and would not cause harm to the neighbouring residential property or to the visual appearance of the site, which is visible only from a considerable distance around St. Luke's Church.
The low ropes course was considered acceptable because it fits naturally with the equipment and activities already established on the site, and the officer was satisfied it would have no adverse impact on the adjacent residential property or on the visual character of the site when viewed from the surrounding area.
