Rushen Parish Commissioners have considered the following Planning Applications:
a) 04/146. Level Garage, Ballagawne Road. Mr & Mrs Henthorn. Approval in Principle for change of use of site from existing petrol station and working garage, to a Residential Site for Development.
This site is not zoned for development on the Arbory and East Rushen Plan. The Commissioners would not like to see the loss of this amenity and feel it would be detrimental to the local community.
b) 04/095. Nooklands and adjoining Garage, Shore Road. Senna Development Ltd. Approval in Principle for demolition and development of 18 apartments and associated park for 24 vehicles together with fourteen garages. The development will not be higher than the office building alongside and will be set back from the roadside and properly landscaped.
The Commissioners feel that, judging by the plan enclosed with the application that the size and design of the proposed development would be totally out of keeping with the area. Despite what is written on the application form the proposed development does not seem to be set back from the road - indeed it is very much forward to the existing building line. The entrance/exit from the car parking area is very close to the junction with the Castletown Road. This junction is very busy and the Commissioners regard the proposed exit and dangerous. The Commissioners are also very concerned about the drainage and subsidence problems which are historic to that site. To excavate the site to any degree would seem to be folly. Refused.

c) 04/061. Land opposite Maynrys, corner of Glen Chass and Howe Road. Mr WFC Bush. Demolition of existing garage and erection of replacement double garage. Approved - with the proviso that the development will not in any way infringe the rights of the owners of Colloway. d) 04/147. Barrule, Shore Road. Newhaven Properties Ltd. Demolition of existing derelict bungalow and replacement with single dwelling and attendant parking. Amended plans. Approved. e) 04/137. The Retreat, Surby Road. Mr \& Mrs P Kneen. Conservatory to East elevation; enlargement of first floor ensuite. (previous PA 03/1483 - review cancelled). Approved. f) 04/115. Rushen Primary School. Dept. of Education. Alteration to existing kitchen and creation of new external window. Approved. g) 04/110. 12a Odins Way, Ballakillowey. Mr K Walsh. Extend existing garage. Approved with the proviso that the owners of the neighbouring property have been informed of the proposed extension.
