Planning Statement Restoration of Derelict Outbuildings to form Storage in connection with the General Medical Surgery New Road, Laxey Job No. 35 1026
Our clients the Department of Health and Social Security wish to restore the present outbuildings on the left of the entry to the rear parking area of the present Surgery.
The buildings have remained unused for several years. There is no roof, windows or doors. The walls however are reasonably sound stonework which bear evidence of being painted.
The buildings are surrounded by the rock face which could have been part of the quarry workings in the past. The Surgery wish to use the building as storage for non-sensitive items. The building is not registered but the site is however contained within the conservation area.
The works comprise of a new monopitch roof to follow the line of the original roof. The finish of the walls will be painted stonework again as original. New PVC-u windows and a ledged braced framed and battened door are to be fitted into existing openings.
New steps and a handrail are required to provide access to the stores, and a new floor will be installed.
An electrical service (below ground) will be installed to provide lighting and power.
It is the intention to minimally alter the façade facing the Medical Centre; all other elevations are hidden facing either rock face or steps.
