6 November 2003 · Committee
Fields 214058/214059, (County Series Field 1369) Clenagh Road Sandygate Ramsey
The proposal was to erect a log cabin on fields off Clenagh Road, Sandygate, in the parish of Lezayre — a rural, isolated location. Although the site was considered reasonably well screened within its surroundings, the officer's assessment found that the principle of placing a new building in an isolated countryside location ran directly against established planning policy. There was no demonstrated agricultural need to justify the structure, and granting permission risked setting a precedent for further development in the open countryside. Planning committee agreed with the officer's recommendation and refused the application.
The application was refused because erecting a log cabin in an isolated countryside location conflicts with planning policy protecting rural areas from unnecessary development. The building was not shown to be required for any agricultural purpose, and approval would have risked encouraging similar development in the countryside.
