Site-specific Method Statement
Proposed safety engineering works to an abandoned mine that adjacent to the A2, Dhoon Glen (Wardell Armstrong Reference No. 97)
This Site-specific Method Statement should be read in conjunction with the General Method Statement, which provides information on the works which are proposed for the Department of Trade and Industry programme of safety engineering on abandoned mine entries and the measures to be taken to ensure that the works are safe and to minimise effects on the environment.
The Site-specific Method Statement identifies the specific works which are proposed at this location and gives details of measures to protect the environment which are particular to this location.
Location
The location of the proposed works is shown on Drawing No. CA02141/PA05. The maximum working area to be used by the contractor is shown edged in red on this drawing. The minimum practical working area will be used.
Proposed works
It is proposed to construct a reinforced concrete cap or plug, as described in section 2 of the General Method Statement.
Site access
The Contractors' site access will be directly from the A2. Contractors' vehicles will park on the existing hardstanding/carpark adjacent to the A2 and there will be no need to construct any temporary access road or track. A temporary compound will be erected to provide a safe working environment.
Reinstatement
The minor nature of the engineering works proposed will result in a minimum of reinstatement work being necessary. The contractors will remove any waste or litter from the site on completion of the works.
