Big School Toilet Block
King William's College
Castletown
28 JUNE 2003
REF 9 0691
Job No.: 4.870 PLANNING STATEMENT 24TH JUNE 2003
The School wish to carry out refurbishment of the existing toilet block, which is in a fairly poor state of repair externally. The building forms part of the Registered King William's College complex. Photographs are enclosed of the building which show a fairly unsatisfactory later addition, which is presently used as a girls facility.
The original toilet building reflects the main school building in form and materials, i.e. walls are of limestone with slate roofing, the later addition is rendered with a flat roof which is causing internal maintenance problems.
The original toilet building has in the past had the timber windows removed and fairly unsympathetic aluminium windows installed behind the timber subframe.
It is intended to restore the timber windows, and remove the aluminium ones. The roof is to be re-slated preserving as far as possible the original slates. It is also intended to provide glazing to the corridor by means of aluminium patent glazing, all other roof features, ventilators etc. to be re-made to match.
To comply with present school requirements a disabled facility is included with this application, again wall and roof finishes will be as the original building, maintaining the corner quoins and other features wherever possible.
